If you’re the type of player who has mastered the art of combat and is great at avoiding enemy blows, then taking double damage won’t affect you nearly as badly as the player who is less skilled in their battles. This can be both a good thing or a bad thing. It’s worth noting that you will still receive the benefits of the charm, and no matter how many notches over that minimum you go, you’ll still only take twice the damage. When you’ve reached this status, you are susceptible to taking double the amount of damage from enemies. This will exceed the number of notches you have available and render you overcharmed. If you don’t have the required amount of notches free to equip a particular charm, you’ll be able to add it by clicking on it at least 5 times.
